CLAIM: Eating protein builds muscle

FALSE: “Muscle size increases when a person continually challenges the muscles to deal with higher levels of resistance or weight. This process is known as muscle hypertrophy. Muscle hypertrophy occurs when the fibers of the muscles sustain damage or injury. The body repairs damaged fibers by fusing them, which increases the mass and size of the muscles.” Note: Protein is a vital nutrient and helps support mucles following a work out.

CLAIM: Consuming any kind of carbohydrate, and sugar, are the leading causes of Type 2 Diables.

FALSE.: According to the Cleveland Clinic, “The main cause of Type 2 diabetes is insulin resistance. Insulin resistance happens when cells in your muscles, fat and liver don’t respond as they should to insulin. Insulin is a hormone your pancreas makes that’s essential for life and regulating blood sugar levels.

Genetics may only play a small part. It appears that instead of inheriting genes for type 2 diabetes, it is more the eating patterns you established while growing up.

If your body isn’t responding to insulin properly, your pancreas has to make more insulin to try to overcome your increasing blood glucose levels (hyperinsulinemia). If your cells become too resistant to insulin and your pancreas can’t make enough insulin to overcome it, it leads to Type 2 diabetes.
